Whew!! Radio Interview Down...Book Signing to Go

It was a lot of fun doing the radio interview this morning, but now I need to gear up for the Pretty When She Dies Book Signing.

Here is the information again if you're in the Central Texas area:

Local Independent Author, Rhiannon Frater, will be signing copies of her vampire novel, Pretty When She Dies, at Secret Oktober from 4pm to 8pm on February 28, 2009.

Rhiannon Frater works and lives in Austin, Texas and is the author of the As The World Dies Zombie Trilogy set in Texas. The first novel of the series has been very successful for an indie book and the second novel in the trilogy will be released the first week of March. Copies of the first novel, As The World Dies: The First Days will also be available for purchase.

Please come by and pick up the latest in indie horror! The author will also be answering any questions about the Independent Author movement and her recent collaboration with the online podcast sensation, Dr. Pus' Library of the Living Dead.

From the backcover of Pretty When She Dies: A Vampire Novel:
Amaliya wakes under the forest floor, disoriented, famished and confused. She digs out of the shallow grave and realizes she is hungry…
... in a new, horrific, unimaginable way…
Sating her great hunger, she discovers that she is now a vampire, the bloodthirsty creature of legend. She has no choice but to flee from her old life and travels across Texas. Her new hunger spurs her to leave a wake of death and blood behind her as she struggles with her new nature.
All the while, her creator is watching. He is ancient, he is powerful, and what's worse is that he's a necromancer. He has the power to force the dead to do his bidding. Amaliya realizes she is but a pawn in a twisted game, and her only hope for survival is to seek out one of her own kind.
But if Amaliya finds another vampire, will it mean her salvation... or her death?

Book Labor Pains

I'm still waiting for Createspace to let me know if the files we uploaded are approved for printing. I am dying to get this last proof copy ordered and take one more step toward publication. I have no doubt that As The World Dies: Fighting to Survive will be published next week. The exact day has yet to be determined.

Remember, if you want your book right away and not wait for the Amazon.com listing, you can order directly from my online shop that will be linked on this blog. They usually list really weird delivery dates. Ignore these. The books come much sooner than Createspace says.

*goes back to waiting anxiously*

This Proves My Point-Some Will Love You, Some Will Hate You

Within 24 hours of my scathing 2 star review on Amazon.com, this review went up for the Kindle edition of As The World Dies: The First Days.

Five stars. And a nice review.

The old saying is just so true. You can't please everyone.

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to write a review. I do appreciate them and they are important to other readers looking for books to read. That someone takes the time to share their thoughts, makes me feel very honored.

It Has Finally Happened--2 Star Review on Amazon.com!

Not quite the one star I was expecting, but it will do. In fact, the review reads pretty much verbatim what I predicted it would. I was just talking to Dr. Pus and Kody Boye about this the other night. That I was waiting anxiously for my 1 star review on Amazon.com. It's almost a rite of passage for a writer. I couldn't believe I had gone so long without one.

I am so grateful for my writing career beginnings online. The constant feedback was both a blessing and a curse until I learned to cope. Reviews for a work in progress can be very encouraging or downright debilitating or vice versa. I had horrible reviews that made me work that much harder on the story and encouraging reviews that made me a bit lazy. I finally learned to just accept that some readers were going to LOVE my writing and others were going to LOATHE it and the best response to any review is just to continue doing my best. Honestly, sometimes what makes one person love my story may be the very thing that makes another loathe it. You cannot please everyone.

In the end, reviews are for other readers. It helps them find works that they want to read and gives them some insight into what the novel is all about. So if you like As the World Dies: Fighting to Survive, write a review. And if you didn't, write a review. It will be up to the reader to discern whether your review impacts their decision to buy and read the book.

So here is what should have been a 1 star review on Amazon.com, but ended up at 2.

2.0 out of 5 stars don't believe the hype!, February 21, 2009
This book keeps to the same old Zombie formula as countless other books have done quite better. Outbreak.Realization of the problem.Hide.Avoid zombies and Lawless thugs. I have read many books about zombies and I find this one less than average at best. The main characters are not very interesting, and it appears that the author is more fascinated with the lesbian issues. If you like zombie horror with a real sense of terror, dread, and hopelessness. Don't waste your money or time. I should have known by the cheesey cover.

P.S. My cheesy cover is what has lured people into buying the book, so again...eye of the beholder.

ATWD: Fighting to Survive Update:
It may be out as soon as next weekend on my online store. I will keep you posted as to when it goes live.

And a free preview should be up sometime Sunday on my Scribd page. I will update with a link.

As The World Dies: The First Days in eBook!

After we published Pretty When She Dies in eBook formats, we received requests to do the same with As The World Dies: The First Days. We've been very pleased with Smashwords and have now uploaded the first book in the zombie trilogy for all those who would like to download the book in formats for their eBook readers and other devices.

This is the link to the Smashwords page where you can buy your stripped down version of the book (no cover, no fancy formatting, etc), but with all the great zombie fun.

The Muse Named Jenni Has Won--I'm Working On ATWD: Siege

My plan was simple. I liked it. It felt good. I felt it would get my butt back into writing gear with FRESH NEW stuff and let me put the zombie deadlands aside for a few months.

I would work on a new piece of supernatural post-apocalyptic goodness all through February, revise it in March, send it off to the editor afterward, then possibly submit it to Permuted Press.

The best laid plans and all that...

I keep having dreams about Jenni and Katie. I keep having nightmares about zombies! Hell, I have Jenni's nightmares about zombies. They aren't diminishing, but increasing.

I've given up.

I'm working on the third book in the As The World Dies Trilogy. It's official.

The new work will have to wait for a month or two.

Stupid muse.

Check out the Zombology Cover!!

Just a quick reminder about the upcoming Library of the Living Dead Press release of Zombology Volume 1--I'm in it!!! My short story "Stop Requested" is appearing in this new anthology of everything zombie. It's a great little tale about a seeing-eye dog trying to protect her mistress on the morning of the zombie outbreak.

Check out this AMAZING cover!

I'm not sure if you can see it, but my name is on the top of the stack on the left. How cool is that?

So you will get double your zombie pleasure in March when As The World Dies: Fighting to Survive and Zombology comes out!

Kick ass!

My Interview WIth The Odd Mind Magazine is over

I most likely sucked. It was rough this time. I kept hearing weird cues from blogtalkradio and wasn't sure if I was on air a few times. But it was fun talking to AngelLesa again.

Oh, well. Hope it goes better next time.

The Front and Back Covers of As The World Dies:Fighting to Survive

I thought it was time to share the amazing artwork of Detra and my husband's mad layout skills. For your enjoyment, the cover of As The World Dies: Fighting to Survive.

Isn't it gorgeous?

I absolutely love it from top to bottom. Katie and Jenni look amazing in the painting and the detail is just beautiful.

Since the first cover was our "night", this one is our "dawn" as a homage to George A. Romero. Yes, the last cover for As The World Dies: Siege will be "day" and its going to be amazing.

I have also included the back cover for you to take a peek at.

Don't you just love that zombie action???

A lot of readers really loved the back cover of the first book with the enormous full moon and that beautiful tree. Detra definitely surpassed himself on this back cover. I love how both covers just rawk it on all cylinders.

The proof copy arrives tomorrow. I cannot wait to hold it in my eager lil' hands. I'll be handing it over to the proof copy editor tomorrow as well. The first one that is. We are still on target for an early March release date.

Keep checking back for more details!!

One Step Closer To Publication

My husband finished the cover formatting for As the World Dies: Fighting to Survive and I put the final changes on the interior. All the files have now been uploaded to the publisher and they should respond in around 24 hours. Once they give the all clear that the files fit their criteria, we will be ordering the proof copy of the novel!

Yay!

Then it goes through the final two editors.

Any revisions will be made.

And then it will go on sale.

Our hopes for an early March publication date are looking good right now.

I'm so relieved.
