A New Start

Hi everyone!

This blog is just for my writing. I'm in a weird place of trying to get published and yet I have a ton of fans.

How did this happen?

Well, I had this weird inspiration one day to post a short story on a forum based on a nightmare about zombies. That story ended up evolving into a epic that ended up over 200 short mini-chapters and had over 100,000 hits on two different forums. The story's name is "As The World Dies" and its about two women trying to survive after the zombies rise. Someone dubbed it Thelma and Louise Meets Zombies. Catchy, huh? Some fans say it is similar to "The Stand". To me it was just a story about two awesome ladies trying to survive with a bunch of other Texans out in West Texas as zombies take over the world.

Anyway, toward the end of this very long story that took me over a year to write on my lunch breaks, on my business trips and while rewriting a novel I am now trying to publish, many of the fans of the story encouraged me to try and get it published. After awhile it just seemed to be the consensus of everyone reading the story.

Therefore, on April 28th, I'm pulling the story down off fanfiction.net and rewriting it. I admit the version online is very rough, with zero edits. I am very excited about the idea of re-writing the story. I really loved the characters and the overall story arc.

Meanwhile, I'm slogging away at a synopsis for the novel I want to get published first. It's done and ready to go but I have to get the synopsis and cover letter just right. Blech. It's a tedious thing to do.

So...anyway, this is my writing blog. Welcome to it.

  1. I Rule!! I win!! It is I, Fanboy1069 from FanFic.Net, here FIRST!! My coolnees points are uncountable!!

And where the hell are the other fans?

Anyway, I wanted to offer you personal congratulations on a fine achievement. Finishing a story is like graduating a child from high school. Sort of. I'm hoping to finish my much less ambitious zombie story someday, but the muses have been silent lately. Probably concentrating on helping you finish, so I guess that's ok.

    Good luck and God Bless!

  2. Rhiannon,
I have already told you how much i loved "As The World Dies". I won't re-hash that conversation, but as long as i am stateside, i am here to support you and your efforts. I hope your stories get published, and i wish you success in all future projects. It is rare when you can find fiction that goes beyond entertainment, and actually touches you in a very personal way. You have the talent to do so, and i hope you continue your efforts. Keep up the good work!!!!!

    Your Fan,
    Chris

  3. Rhiannon,

I found your story via another forum. I always enjoyed zombie films that were not as much hack & slash. As they were stories of how average people would survive. I read "World War Z" and the comic "Walking Dead". But, they left me wanting more. That is how I found your story. I have spent the last couple of days reading it. On breaks at work or at night. I had to force myself to stop to go back to work or go to bed. That is the sign of a good story...not wanting to put it down. I finally finished. And was very satisfied with the ending. I like happy endings. One they give you hope and the other is that you spend all this time invested in characters (whether in a book or movie) and to see it all for nothing just sucks. I know its not reality..But, if I want reality I will read the newspapers or watch the news. Of course some major characters have to die. But, not all. That is what I disliked about the Dawn of the Dead remake.
Just curious if you ever picture any particular actor/actress portraying the characters from the book? I used Nathan Fillion (Firefly) for Travis and Mira Furlan (Lost,B5) for Nerit. Your choices might be completely different. I would love to hear your "casting" ideas. Anyways, thanks again for creating a very engrossing story.

    Regards, Todd (zipbags@aol.com)

ps-Thanks for keeping Katie & Travis alive!

pss-Forget publishing. Go to HBO. I am thinking a 13 episode series. :)
